16:9 to 21:9 conversion (new monitor) and curved monitors

Featured Replies

I usually play Warzone on a 27" 2560x1440 (16:9) 144hz IPS monitor and just ordered a new OLED 34" 3440x1440 (21:9) 144hz curved monitor.  This will be my first ultrawide and first curved monitor.  I'm hoping it won't be too drastic of a change.   I searched but didn't see much discussion around curved vs flat and which is "technically" better.  I know pretty much every "pro" uses a 16:9 flat monitor so they can achieve max refresh rate and max fps.  I know I'll be taking a slight FPS hit but I think the OLED clarity (contrast/color/pixel response/latency) may make up for some of it.  I would be buying a 27" 1440p flat OLED or 24" 1080p flat OLED in a heartbeat, but none exist yet.  Anybody have experience of insight from changing from 16:9 to ultrawide curved?

I was playing around with the calculator using 0% matching and these were what I came up with.  Please let me know if this is correct for keeping same sensitivity.

  1. Proposed change here with 0% matching: https://www.mouse-sensitivity.com/?share=6ff5e095cbded5a412b3b6ae8fb3f14e, hipfire sens slightly off
  2. Proposed change here with 360 hipfire and 0% matching: https://www.mouse-sensitivity.com/?share=2abbcad50d7a511b15a242cbeeee3d83, ads multiplier slightly off

Not sure why both are slightly off instead of matching 1:1, since it's a vertical match.  Maybe has to do with monitor physical height being slightly different?  Rounding issue?

Your transition does not require any changes to the settings. The most rudimentary comparison in PPI: Past monitor is 109, new monitor is 110. Changing the ratio changes the hFoV at the same vFoV. Your horizontal FoV has gotten bigger, which means more objects hit the edges, etc. related apparitions with that.

Since a 27" 16:9 is almost the same height as a 21:9 34" you should get almost the same sensitivity as long as you match the vertical axis. Which is why you get a slightly different result on MDV 0%. Also be sure to increase the horizontal FOV (so the vertical FOV is the same as for 16:9) for games that uses Hdeg Res, since you will get a very narrow vertical FOV with the same settings as on 16:9.
