Mouse smoothing in The Outer Worlds makes the mouse behave as if it has negative acceleration at high polling rates (1000hz).

It is possible to disable mouse smoothing in Input.ini

Microsoft Store path:  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\PrivateDivision.TheOuterWorldsWindows10_hv3d7yfbgr2rp\LocalCache\Local\Indiana\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Input.ini

Add two lines:

  • [/Script/Engine.InputSettings]
  • bEnableMouseSmoothing=False

By default, Input.ini is empty. I only have those two lines and my mouse works perfectly at 1000hz.

BELOW IS THE WRONG WAY TO HAVE YOUR SETTINGS, THIS WILL DO NOTHING:

  • [Engine.PlayerInput]
  • bEnableMouseSmoothing=false
  • bViewAccelerationEnabled=false

This does indeed work, the game notes are updated.

it's also possible to disable FOV sens scaling or to change the coefficient.

[/Script/Engine.InputSettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bEnableFOVScaling=True
FOVScale=0.011110

Does this really work? If so, what FOVScale corresponds to MDV 0% and similar settings, or is it as simple as FOVScale=0.000000 for 0% and FOVScale=1.000000 for 100%? 🤔

Also saw this post about ADS sens in config, but I guess it might not be included in the calculator because it doesn't actually do anything in game?

I loved this game to death when it was out but the crazy ADS scaling put me off.

Paging @DPI Wizard again to validate the 2 replies above me.

Edit: Right, so the game has updated since I last played and there is now an ADS sensitivity slider in-game, so there's that.
